How Kitchen Cabinets Are Installed
If you’re planning a kitchen remodel, one of the biggest transformations comes with brand-new cabinets. But many homeowners wonder what exactly goes into cabinet installation. At Precision Interiors & Construction, we specialize in making the process smooth, professional, and stress-free.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how kitchen cabinets are installed, from prep to polish.
Step 1: Planning and Measuring
Before a single cabinet is installed, we take precise measurements of your kitchen. This includes noting wall conditions, appliance placement, ceiling height, and any plumbing or electrical work that needs to be considered.
This planning stage ensures everything fits perfectly—and that your new cabinets not only look great but function beautifully in your day-to-day life.
Step 2: Marking Layouts
Once measurements are locked in, our team marks reference lines on the walls to guide the installation. We map out where each base and wall cabinet will go, double-checking alignment, spacing, and height.
This step is essential for creating a level, symmetrical, and visually appealing layout.
Step 3: Installing Upper Cabinets First
We start at the top! Upper (wall-mounted) cabinets are installed first so we can work without having to lean over the lower cabinets.
We locate and secure cabinets into wall studs for stability.
Cabinets are shimmed and adjusted to ensure level lines and proper spacing.
Doors and drawers are temporarily removed to reduce weight and prevent damage.
Step 4: Securing Base Cabinets
With upper cabinets in place, we move on to the base cabinets. These are carefully positioned and secured, with extra attention to leveling—especially around corners and appliance openings.
We check and re-check alignment, making sure your countertops will sit perfectly flat.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Once all cabinets are secured:
Doors and drawers are reattached and adjusted for smooth operation.
Molding, filler panels, and toe kicks are installed for a polished look.
Hardware like knobs and handles is added, if included in the scope of work.
Step 6: Countertop Prep
If you’re getting new countertops installed, cabinet installation needs to be 100% complete before measurements can be taken. Our team works closely with countertop installers to make sure everything lines up for a flawless finish.
